Light My Fire

As a lover of food, drink and layering, A/W is definitely my favourite time of year. Carbs are back in season and it’s a chance to see a different side to Edinburgh with all the show stopping events.

Cocktails in The City

For me there’s one party in particular that kicks it off in the classiest way: Cocktails in the City. Finishing its tour across the UK in Edinburgh, Cocktails in the City brings the best bars under one stunning roof to showcase some of the city’s finest talent. This year, held at the impressive Mansfield Traquair, we partnered with The Voyage of Buck, the latest addition to the successful Big Red Teapot group in Edinburgh and Fentiman’s Tonic. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend heading along to Williams Street and let the team work their magic on you! Using, sake, purple shiso and Fentiman’s Tonic, bar manager Mike brought Japan to Edinburgh and created a delicious drink that truly complimented Daffy’s.

Some of the other standout drinks for me included the Barcardi cocktail, created by the team at the G&V hotel which used honey from the G&bees, their roof top beehive! Urban bees are said to produce wonderful honey as they have such a diverse array of plants and flowers to choose from. I know where I’ll be heading when I inevitably get struck down with the cold! I also loved my sample of Wondermint Schnapps liqueur, a tasty blend of mint with well-balanced sweetness and subtle herbaceous notes. I’m already thinking of an excuse for another cocktail session!

 Christmas in the Capital

As the clocks go back and Edinburgh welcomes the world famous Christmas Market, the city comes alive with buzz. However if you are looking for an excuse to escape the shopping and crowds, The Pitt street food market offers a wonderful alternative. Gathering some of the finest food vendors in Leith, the food is fresh, creative and simply delicious! The market runs every Saturday until 17th December and this Saturday I will be joining Cocktails and Drams to shake up some Daffy’s cocktails and to my joy, all the vendors will be competing in a burger off! I’ve already eyed up the menu and it’s not to be missed.

Bonfire Night Delights

This weekend we of course have bonfire night to look forward to – if you’re throwing a party, we’ve been working on a delicious cocktail to try out on your guests. It’s just the right amount of sweet, spicy and silly to make you feel the mini fireworks in your mouth:

Light my Fire:

  • 40mls Daffy’s gin
  • 15mls Grand Marnier
  • 25mls Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 1 Heaped Teaspoon Damson, Plum Jam

Rim a martini glass with lemon and dip in cinnamon sugar and popping candy. Shake and strain cocktail into the martini glass. Enjoy!
